LLB Here

Hello cyber space!
I suppose I need to start somewhere, and well lets be honest it wouldn't make much sense if I started in the middle so I will start with a quick intro about me. My name is Laura-Beth and I'm a Couture sewing and design student/assistant teacher by day, and customer service liaison by night. Okay, now that you know that important facts I just have to say this... I LOVE Betsey Johnson!! I went shopping at Betsey Johnson on friday and I bought two knit pieces. One is a skirt and the other a sweater.. Can you say to die for! Now don't get the wrong idea, the only reason I could even afford to go was because she had a major sale and my amazing boyfriend gave me a gift card for my birthday (which I had been holding hostage in my wallet for what felt like months) I'm not a big designer whore or anything, I just love the way Betsey designs I feel like for me it's worth the money.
On another note I have a ton of homework... like A LOT! My school has an annual fashion "event" where it showcases all the students work and it just so happens to land a week after classes come to a grinding halt, but that doesn't mean the work does! Sometimes I feel like screaming helps ( And recently blogging about it) Ohhh I suppose I should explain a bit about the school! Ecole Holt Couture is the name and it's located in Calgary Alberta. Elfredia Holtkamp is my instructor and the founder of the school, she started her education in Romania around WW11 ( she has some amazing stories and makes me realize how blessed I am every single day)! It took her fifteen years to write and condense sixty years of brilliance and couture knowledge to make a four year course ( I know, amazing!!) We learn everything the old school way... we are taught everything from designing, pattern making, ( real flat pattern making, using our own measurements. That's right, I make clothes for REAL people with curves, bumps and one sidedness!) fittings, working with the fabrics, to the finishing. Oh and lets not forget the all important "art of pressing"! I'm currently in the beginning of my third year, and the terms are becoming more exciting as be become more confident in our work!  This term we are making a leather (don't worry animal lovers I used foax leather!:)) bomber jacket, jeans, walking shorts, a fifties ensemble which includes and dress with a Dior dart and pleat, and jacket, three different hats and a clutch! If it sounds like a lot it is, but we are professionals here (almost) we can handle anything... right? well anyways thats all for now, I must get back to the studio!

xx Laura
